Gungahlin records a warm start to spring 2013.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during September were much milder and a little drier than normal.

Nights were unseasonably mild, with an average minimum of 6.0°C; well up on the average of 2.4°C recorded last September, and above Gungahlin’s longer term September average of 4.3°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on September 6, when the temperature was a mild 10.7°C, while on September 13, it dropped to a colder -0.4°C.

Days were generally mild and cloudy, with an average maximum of 18.4°C; up on last September’s average of 15.9°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 16.5°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 24.5°C, recorded on September 2, while on September 19, overcast skies and cool N winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 11.5°C.

Due to the warmer night-time conditions, Gungahlin received only 3 frosts during September and there were 2 fogs.  This compares to the 15 frosts and 2 fogs recorded in Gungahlin last September.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.2 km/h during September; with the strongest gust for the month 57.9 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on September 26.

Gungahlin recorded 48.8mm of rain during September, over 9 days.  This compares to the 46.8mm that fell last September.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 50.2mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were heavier, with Canberra AP recording 91.0mm for the month, Monash 95.7mm, Tuggeranong 107.8mm and Melba 69.6mm.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall so far in 2013 now stands at 330.2mm, well down on the 529.2mm that fell over the same period last year.
