Gungahlin receives pleasant start to spring 2002.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during September were typical of early spring, with cool to mild temperatures, moderate rainfall and an almost constant wind.

Nights were cool to cold, with an average minimum of 3.9°C.  This was down on last year's average of 4.8°C.   The warmest night occurred on September 25 when the temperature was a very mild 13°C, while on September 11 it dropped to a frosty -3°C.

Days were generally cool to mild and sunny, with an average maximum of 16.1°C, much cooler than last September's average of 18.8°C.   The highest temperature was a pleasant 22°C, recorded on September 23, while on September 18 Gungahlin's maximum reached just 10°C.

Despite leaving winter behind, Gungahlin received 9 frosts for the month, one more than last September, and there were no fogs.

A feature of September's weather was the almost constant wind.  In fact, winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 6.0km/h, making it the windiest month so far this year.  The strongest gust recorded was a 64.4km/h Westerly during the passage of a deep low pressure trough on September 18, and reports of minor wind related damage were received from across Gungahlin.

Despite the grim summer rainfall outlook, Gungahlin received some much-needed rain during September.  The Weather Centre recorded 65.8mm of rain for the month over 8 days, slightly down on last September's 70.6mm.

Gungahlin's October Outlook:  Current indications are for a dry and mild October with temperatures, on the whole, around normal.  Nights will remain quite cool and average at 5°C, while days may be slightly up on normal and average at 20°C.   Unfortunately, rainfall looks like being below normal.
