Gungahlin records a cool, damp July 2008.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during July were dominated by cloudy skies, cool to cold temperatures and moderate NW winds.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of 0.9 degrees; down slightly on the average of 1.3 degrees recorded last July.  The warmest night for the month occurred on July 2, when the temperature was a mild 6.4 degrees, while on July 25 it dropped to a freezing -3.5 degrees.

Days were generally cool to cold and cloudy, with an average maximum of 10.4 degrees; up a little on the 9.9 degrees recorded in July 2007.  The highest temperature for the month was a mild 15.5 degrees, recorded on July 14.  In contrast, overcast skies, steady rain and gusty N to NW winds combined to keep Gungahlinís maximum temperature on July 10 to just 6.7 degrees. 

Gungahlin recorded 22 frosts during July (20 frosts last July), and there were 3 fogs (7 fogs last July).

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 3.9 km/h during July, with the strongest gust for the month 62.8 km/h from the NNW, recorded on July 1.

Some very welcome rain fell throughout the region during July, with Gungahlin recording 43.7mm of rain, over 19 days.  This compared to the 24.6mm which fell last July.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also pleasing, with 42.4mm recorded at Canberra AP and 53.4mm at Tuggeranong.  Gungahlinís total rainfall for 2008 now stands at 232.9mm, down a little on the 258.2mm which fell over the same period last year.

Gungahlin's August Outlook:  Current indications are for slightly cooler, wetter weather conditions for Gungahlin during August.  Overall, daytime temperatures should average at around 12 degrees, and nights at 1 degree.  Rainfall prospects look promising, with an increase in passing frontal systems and low pressure troughs likely to see Gungahlin receive at least its average August rainfall of 58mm.
