Sun shines brightly in July 2002.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during July were dominated by cold, frosty nights, cool sunny days and little rain.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of 0.3°C (0.4°C last July).   The warmest night was on July 5 when the temperature reached a mild 6°C, while on July 18 it dropped to -5°C.

Days were cool and mainly sunny, with an average maximum of 11.5°C (11.9°C last July).   The highest temperature was 16°C, recorded on July 28, while on July 2 Gungahlin's maximum struggled to reach 7°C.

Due to the clearer conditions, July mornings were fairly frosty.  Gungahlin had 20 frosts during the month, but this could have been higher had it not experienced a very mild spell between July 4 and July 9, which saw night averages of 5°C.  Gungahlin also had seven fogs.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.3km/h during the month, with the strongest gust recorded a 51.5km/h Westerly on July 6.

Rainfall for the month was well down on average with just 25.4mm falling at the Weather Centre over 11 days (48.2mm last year).   There were no snowfalls.

Gungahlin's August Outlook:  Current indications are for a fairly mild end to winter, with temperatures during August likely to be slightly warmer than normal.   Nights should average at 3°C, and days around 14°C.

Rainfall looks as though it will remain low as the effects of a strengthening El Nino weather event impact the region.
