Gungahlin records a cool, dry June in 2018.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin to start the 2018 winter season were generally a little cooler and drier than normal.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of 1.9°C; well up on last year’s average of 1.0°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term June average is 2.0°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on June 8, when the temperature was a mild 6.3°C, while on June 23, it dropped to a very frosty -5.6°C.

Days were generally cool to cold and cloudy, with an average maximum of 11.1°C; down on last June’s average of 12.0°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term June average maximum is 11.8°C.  The highest temperature for the month was 15.5°C, recorded on June 7, while on June 17, cloudy skies and gusting W/NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to a cold 4.4°C.

Gungahlin received 11 frosts during June and there were 2 fogs.  This compares to the 22 frosts and 10 fogs recorded in Gungahlin during June 2017.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.8km/h during June, with the strongest gust for the month 37.0km/h from the NW, recorded on June 30.

Gungahlin received 32.2mm of rain in June, over 15 days.  This compares to the record dry June 2017, when Gungahlin recorded just 2.8mm.  Gungahlin’s longer term June average is 50.9mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also below average, with Canberra AP recording 27.8mm of rain for the month, Tuggeranong 24.6mm, Monash 24.0mm and Melba 37.0mm.
