Gungahlin records record rainfall in May 2016.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during May were generally cool to mild and cloudy.  Rainfall was well above average. 

Nights were generally cool to cold, with an average minimum of 5.7°C, above last Mays average of 4.7°C, and considerably warmer than Gungahlin's longer term May average of 3.8°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on May 9, when the temperature was a very mild 12.6°C, while on May 30, it dropped to a frosty -2.1°C.

Days were mild and partly cloudy, with an average maximum of 15.4°C; up on last year’s average of 14.6°C, but down slightly on Gungahlin’s longer term May average of 15.5°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 22.2°C, recorded on May 7, while on May 26, Gungahlin's maximum temperature was just 9.5°C.

Gungahlin recorded 4 frosts during May and there were 3 fogs.  This compares to last Mays 9 frosts and 2 fogs.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.1km/h during May, with the strongest gust for the month 43.5km/h from the W/NW, recorded on May 11.

After a particularly dry May last year, that saw just 8.0mm of rain fall at the Weather Centre, is was pleasing to receive 69.8mm of rain for the month, over 12 days.  This compares to Gungahlin’s longer term May average of just 25.4mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were generally lighter, with Canberra AP recording 47.6mm for the month, Tuggeranong 37.2mm and Melba 78.1mm.
