Gungahlin records a warm, dry April in 2018.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during April 2018 were warmer and drier than normal.

Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 9.0°C, well up on last Aprils average of 6.5°C and above Gungahlin’s longer term April average 7.4°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on April 13, when the temperature was a mild 14.3°C, while on April 30, it dropped to a colder 3.4°C.

Days were generally warm and clear, with an average maximum of 23.3°C; well up on last years average of 19.4°C and above Gungahlin’s longer term April average of 20.4°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a record breaking 31.4°C, recorded on April 11.  The previous record high was 29.8°C on April 15, 2004.  In contrast, on April 15, overcast skies and gusty W/NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to a cool 13.6°C.

Given the milder overnight temperatures, Gungahlin recorded no frosts during April, and there were also no fogs.  This compares to the 3 frosts and 4 fogs received in April 2017.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.5km/h during April, with the strongest gust for the month 51.5km/h from the NW, recorded on April 14.

Gungahlin recorded 20.8mm of rain during April, over 6 days.  This compares to the 34.6mm that fell last April, and Gungahlin’s long term April average of 30.1mm.

Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with Canberra AP recording 19.6mm for the month, Tuggeranong 16.6mm, Monash 17.8mm and Melba 22.6mm.
