Gungahlin records a mild, clear April in 2017.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during April 2017 were slightly cooler and wetter than normal.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 6.5°C, well down on last Aprils warm average of 9.5°C and a little below Gungahlin’s longer term April average 7.3°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on April 25, when the temperature was a mild 12.3°C, while on April 28, it dropped to a cold -1.2°C.

Days were generally mild and clear, with an average maximum of 19.4°C; well down on last years average of 22.9°C and below Gungahlin’s longer term April average of 20.3°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 23.6°C, recorded on April 18, while on April 26, cloudy skies and rain combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to a cold 12.3°C.

Proving winter isn’t too far, Gungahlin recorded its first frost of the year on April 27. In all, there were 3 frosts and 4 fogs recorded in the month.  This compares to the 0 frosts and 5 fogs received in April 2016.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 0.5km/h during April, with the strongest gust for the month 33.8km/h from the N/NW, recorded on April 9.

Gungahlin recorded 34.6mm of rain during April, over 8 days.  This compares to the 13.2mm that fell last April, and Gungahlin’s long term April average of 30.5mm.

Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with Canberra AP recording 31.6mm for the month, Tuggeranong 32.4mm, Monash 38.2mm and Melba 45.6mm.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall for 2017 now stands at 194.6mm, slightly above the 175.4mm that fell over the same period in 2016.
