A mild, dry April 2003.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during April were generally mild and cloudy, with above average temperatures, and little rain.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 7.8°C, much cooler than last April's average of 8.8°C.   The warmest night occurred on April 12, when the temperature was 12°C, while on April 6 it dropped to a cooler 4°C.   Interestingly, this was the second April in a row where the temperature failed to drop to 0°C or below in Gungahlin.

Days were generally mild and cloudy, with an average maximum of 19.7°C, well down on last April's average of 22.2°C.   The highest temperature was a warm 25°C, recorded on April 12, while on April 25, steady rain and cool SE winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum to just 16°C.

Proving winter isn't too far away, Gungahlin received 4 fogs during the month however, due to fairly mild nighttime temperatures, we recorded no frosts.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 3.3km/h during April, with the month's strongest gust 48.3km/h from the N/NW, recorded on April 14.

Rainfall was, for the third April running, well down on average.  The total for the month was just 22.6mm (12.0mm last year, and 5.2mm in 2001) with rain falling on 10 days.   This brings the total rainfall so far for 2003 to 115.0mm, well below the 225.4mm that fell over the same period last year.

Gungahlin's May Outlook:  Current indications are for a continuation of the unseasonably dry and mild weather well into May.   Daytime temperatures should average at 16°C, but nights will become quite cold, and average at 3°C.
