Gungahlin records an 'average' March.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during March were typical of the season, although rainfall was below average.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 11.0°C; well up on the average of 9.9°C recorded last March.  Gungahlin’s longer term March average is 11.2°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on March 14, when the temperature was a muggy 15.8°C, while on March 30 it dropped to a cooler 5.4°C.

Days were generally warm and partly cloudy, with an average maximum of 24.8°C; well up on last years average of 20.8°C, but spot on Gungahlin’s longer term March average of 24.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 31.2°C, recorded on March 10, while on March 2, cloudy skies and cool S/SE winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to a cool 17.7°C.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 2.2 km/h during March, with the strongest gust for the month 45.1 km/h from the W, recorded on March 28.

After recording its wettest March on record last year, when a 166.0mm fell at the Weather Centre, Gungahlin received a disappointing 16.4mm of rain this March, over 6 days.  In fact, it was the driest March since 2009.  Gungahlin’s longer term March average is 40.7mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also well below average, with Canberra AP recording 28.0mm for the month, Tuggeranong 22.2mm, and Monash just 15.2mm.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall so far in 2013 now stands at 131.4mm, well below the 314.4mm that fell over the same period last year.
