Gungahlin records warm, dry March 2008.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during March were mixed, with the first half of the month being warm to hot, and the second half much cooler.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 10.8 degrees; well down on last Marchís average of 12.2 degrees.  The warmest night for the month occurred on March 15, when the temperature was a warm 14.6 degrees, while on March 28 it dropped to a cold 4.5 degrees.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 26.2 degrees; up slightly on the average of 26.0 degrees recorded last March.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 36.6 degrees (a new March record for Gungahlin), recorded on March 15.  In contrast, overcast skies and steady rain on March 25 combined to keep Gungahlinís maximum temperature to just 16.4 degrees.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 2.0 km/h during March, with the strongest gust for the month 48.3 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on March 31.

Despite some positive signs towards the end of February, Gungahlin recorded just 33.8mm of rain during March, over 5 days.  The bulk of this (29.2mm) fell on March 25.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also a little below average, with 31.2mm recorded at Canberra AP and 36.4mm at Tuggeranong.  Gungahlinís total rainfall for 2008 now stands at 131.1mm, well up on the 83.6mm which fell over the same period last year.

Gungahlin's April Outlook:  Current indications are for slightly cooler, wetter weather conditions for Gungahlin during April.  Overall, daytime temperatures during April should average at around 20 degrees, and nights at 6 degrees.  Despite April traditionally being one of the driest months of the year in Gungahlin, rainfall prospects look quite positive from now until winter.  Gungahlin looks set to receive around 45mm for the month, well above the longer term April average of just 27.2mm.
