Gungahlin records a warmer, sunnier December in 2016.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during December 2016 were warmer and more sunny than normal.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 13.9°C; up on last Decembers average of 12.0°C, and well above Gungahlin's longer term December average of 11.9°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on December 29, when the temperature was a muggy 20.1°C, while on December 10, it dropped to a cool 7.0°C.

Days were generally warm and sunny, with an average maximum of 28.4°C; down on last years average of 29.3°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term December average is 26.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 32.8°C, recorded on December 13, while on December 15, Gungahlin's maximum was a cool 16.7°C. 

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.5 km/h during December, with the strongest gust for the month 41.8 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on December 17.

Gungahlin recorded 43.4mm of rain in December, over 12 days.  This compares to the 29.2mm that fell last December and Gungahlin’s longer term December average of 53.0mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were a little heavier, with Canberra AP recording 64.6mm for the month, Tuggeranong 93.4mm, Monash 88.3mm and Melba 58.6mm.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall for 2016 was 820.4mm, well above the 502.4mm that fell in Gungahlin during 2015.
