Gungahlin records a warm, wet end to 2014.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during December 2014 were generally slightly warmer and much wetter than normal.

Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 12.8°C; up on last Decembers average of 11.7°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term December average is also 11.7°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on December 24, when the temperature was a muggy 17.4°C, while on December 14, it dropped to a cooler 8.2°C.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 27.6°C; down on last years average of 28.4°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term December average is 26.4°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 33.5°C, recorded on December 22, while on December 6, Gungahlin’s maximum temperature reached a cooler 22.2°C.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 2.2 km/h during December, with the strongest gust for the month 45.1 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on December 16.

Gungahlin recorded a healthy 87.2mm of rain in December, over 13 days.  This compares to the 15.6mm that fell last December and Gungahlin’s longer term December average of 54.9mm.

Falls in other parts of Canberra were also well above average, with Canberra AP recording 102.0mm for the month, Tuggeranong 88.6mm, Monash 90.6mm and Melba 108.3mm.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall for 2014 was 509.8mm, up on the 443.0mm that fell in Gungahlin during 2013.
