A wet end to Spring 2003.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during November were fairly pleasant, with mild temperatures, cloudy skies and above average rainfall.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 8.7°C, much cooler than last November's average of 10.9°C.   The warmest night for the month occurred on November 20, when the temperature was a warm 15.8°C, while on November 3 it dropped to a cold 1.7°C.  

Days were generally mild to warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 23.7°C, well down on last November's average of 26.4°C.   The highest temperature for the month was a hot 32.7°C, recorded on November 19, while on November 1, cold N/NW winds, overcast skies and mountain snowfalls combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum to just 13.4°C.  In all, the temperature in Gungahlin reached 30°C or above on 3 days during the month.

Gungahlin received 2 frosts during November, bringing the total number of frosts so far in 2003 to 68, and there were no fogs.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.8km/h during November, with the strongest gust for the month 53.1km/h from the NW, recorded on November 20.

Gungahlin's received an impressive 71.6mm of rain during November (over 7 days), bringing the total so far for 2003 to 465.4mm, up a little on the 430.0mm that fell over the same period in 2002.

Gungahlin's December Outlook:  Current indications are that cooler, cloudier and wetter weather will continue into the first part of summer, with December temperatures likely to be below average, especially during the day.  Days should average at around 24°C and nights slightly above average at 12°C.  Most pleasingly, rainfall looks set to be well above average in December, with a monthly total over 100mm likely.

Christmas day forecast: There is a 99% chance of children waking up earlier than normal, with scattered Christmas wrapping by lunchtime.  The afternoon is expected to be calmer, as the effects of a big Christmas lunch take effect.  Merry Christmas from all at the Gungahlin Weather Centre!
