October 2004 was mild and cloudy.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin and North Canberra during October were dominated by cloudy skies, mild temperatures and some welcome rainfall.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 6.8 degrees, up on last Octoberís average of 5.6 degrees.  The warmest night for the month occurred on October 13, when the temperature was a muggy 19.0 degrees, while on October 16 it dropped to a frosty minus 1.7 degrees.

Days were mild and generally cloudy, with an average maximum of 19.0 degrees, much warmer than last Octoberís average of 17.0 degrees.  The highest temperature for the month was a very warm 28.6 degrees, recorded on October 13, while on October 1, overcast skies and steady rain combined to keep Gungahlinís maximum to just 10.2 degrees.

Gungahlin recorded 1 frost during October, and there was 1 fog.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 5.5 km/h during October, with the strongest gust for the month 61.2 km/h from the NW, recorded on October 27.

The rain made a welcome return to the region during October, with Gungahlin receiving a healthy 59.2mm of rain over 11 days.  A pleasing aspect of the October rain was that it fell uniformly across Canberra, with 56mm recorded at Canberra AP and 66mm at Tuggeranong.  Gungahlinís total rainfall so far in 2004 now stands at 312.0mm, down on the 393.7mm that fell over the same period in 2003.

Gungahlinís November Outlook: Current indications are for a slightly warmer and more humid November than normal across Gungahlin.  Daytime temperatures should average at around 23 degrees and nights at 10 degrees.  Rainfall prospects continue to be good, with totals likely to exceed Gungahlinís longer term November average of 64mm.
