Gungahlin records a slightly cooler and much drier start to Spring 2015.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during September were a little cooler and much drier than normal.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of 3.4°C; down on the average of 4.3°C recorded last September, and below Gungahlin’s longer term September average of 4.3°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on September 15, when the temperature was a 7.8°C, while on September 9, it dropped to a frosty -1.0°C.

Days were generally cool and cloudy, with an average maximum of 16.4°C; down slightly on last September’s average of 16.8°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 16.5°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 21.8°C, recorded on September 14, while on September 8, cloudy skies and gusty NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 10.0°C.

Gungahlin received 7 frosts and 1 fog during September.  This compares to the 8 frosts and 1 fog recorded in Gungahlin last September.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 2.5km/h during September (average 4.2 km/h last year); with the strongest gust for the month 41.8 km/h from the N, recorded on September 15.

Following the fairly wet August, Gungahlin recorded a disappointing 15.4mm of rain during September, over 4 days.  This compares to the 31.4mm that fell last September.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 47.2mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also light and well below average, with Canberra AP recording 13.6mm for the month, Monash 10.8mm, Tuggeranong 9.6mm and Melba 19.0mm.
