Gungahlin records an 'average' start to spring 2014.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin to start the new season were pretty much spot on average.

Nights were cool to cold, with an average minimum of 4.3°C; well down on the average of 6.0°C recorded last September.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 4.3°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on September 29, when the temperature was a mild 11.7°C, while on September 19, it dropped to a colder minus 1.6°C.

Days were generally cool to mild and cloudy, with an average maximum of 16.8°C; down on last September’s average of 18.4°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 16.5°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 23.8°C, recorded on September 29, while on September 2, overcast skies and rain combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 9.6°C.

Gungahlin received 8 frosts during September and there was 1 fog.  This compares to the 3 frosts and 2 fogs recorded in Gungahlin last September.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 3.1 km/h during September; with the strongest gust for the month 43.5 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on September 30.

Gungahlin recorded 31.4mm of rain during September, over 10 days.  This compares to the 48.8mm that fell last September.  Gungahlin’s longer term September average is 49.1mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with Canberra AP recording 28.8mm for the month, Monash 31.6mm, Tuggeranong 29.2mm and Melba 46.5mm.
