Gungahlin records a cold, cloudy and dry July in 2018.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during July were a little colder and much drier than normal.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of -0.2°C; down on the average of 0.4°C recorded last July, and below Gungahlin’s longer term July average of 1.1°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on July 25, when the temperature was a mild 6.5°C, while on July 2, it dropped to a freezing -6.9°C.  This is the second coldest temperature recorded at the Gungahlin Weather Centre, just a little above the minus 7.1°C, recorded last July.

Days were generally cold and cloudy, with an average maximum of 11.1°C, up slightly on the average of 10.7°C recorded last year.  Gungahlin’s longer term July average is 11.0°C.  The highest temperature for the month was 15.6°C, recorded on July 5, while on July 7, cloudy skies and gusty W/NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 6.5°C.

Gungahlin received 21 frosts during July and there were 3 fogs.  This compares to the 19 frosts and 2 fogs recorded in Gungahlin during July 2017.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 3.4km/h during July, with the strongest gust for the month 41.8 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on July 7.

Rainfall during July was well below average across much of the region, with Gungahlin recording just 10.2mm of rain for the month, over 13 days.  This compares to the 26.4mm that fell last year and Gungahlin’s longer term July average of 37.4mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were even lighter, with Canberra AP recording just 7.8mm for the month, Tuggeranong 6.0mm, Monash 5.6mm and Melba 4.3mm.  Gungahlin's 2018 rainfall total now stands at 268.4mm.
