Despite the cold, Gungahlin records yet another snow less July.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during July were colder than normal but, despite this, snow again failed to fall, making it the 11th July in a row without snow.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of 0.5°C; considerably colder than the average of 1.7°C recorded last July, and below Gungahlin’s longer term July average of 1.0°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on July 25, when the temperature was a mild 5.2°C, while on July 3, it dropped to a frosty -4.2°C.

Days were generally cold and cloudy, with an average maximum of 9.7°C, well below the average of 10.7°C last year.  Gungahlin’s longer term July average is 11.0°C.  The highest temperature for the month was 13.4°C, recorded on July 31, while on July 12, overcast skies, light rain and nearby snow, combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 5.8°C.

Despite several cold outbreaks during the month, with widespread low level snow falls, not a single snow flake fell at Gungahlin.  This made it the 11th July in a row without snow.

Gungahlin received 24 frosts during July and there were 3 fogs.  This compares to the 17 frosts and 4 fogs recorded in Gungahlin during July 2014.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 2.9 km/h during the month, down on the average of 3.2 km/h recorded last July. The strongest gust for the month was 38.6 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on July 25.

Rainfall during July was close to, or slightly above average, across much of the region, with Gungahlin recording 42.2mm of rain for the month, over 17 days.  This compares to the 16.6mm that fell last year and Gungahlin’s longer term July average of 37.8mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with Canberra AP recording 37.2mm for the month, Tuggeranong 49.4mm, Monash 48.6mm and Melba 43.5mm.
