Gungahlin records its driest June in 2017.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin to start the 2017 winter season were generally a little warmer and much drier than normal.

Nights were cold, with an average minimum of 1.0°C; significantly down on last year’s mild June average of 3.0°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term June average is 2.1°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on June 9, when the temperature was a mild 7.2°C, while on June 2, it dropped to a frosty -3.8°C.

Days were generally cool to cold and cloudy, with an average maximum of 12.0°C; up on last June’s average of 11.4°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term June average is 11.8°C.  The highest temperature for the month was 15.2°C, recorded on June 8, while on June 29, Gungahlin's maximum temperature was 9.3°C.

Gungahlin received 22 frosts during June and there were 10 fogs.  This compares to the 13 frosts and 2 fogs recorded in Gungahlin during June 2016.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 0.5km/h during June, with the strongest gust for the month 27.4km/h from the N, recorded on June 23.

Gungahlin received just 2.8mm of rain in June, over 12 days, making it the driest June recorded at the Weather Centre.  The previous record being 13.4mm, recorded in June 2011.  This compares to the 135.0mm that fell last June and Gungahlin’s longer term June average of 53.4mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also very low, with Canberra AP recording just 2.4mm of rain for the month, Tuggeranong 1.4mm, Monash 2.0mm and Melba 3.0mm.  Gungahlin's rainfall for 2016 now stands at 242.0mm, well below the 380.2mm which fell over the same period last year.
