Gungahlin recorded a cool to mild and mostly clear May in 2017.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during May were generally cool to mild and sunny, but rainfall was above normal. 

Nights were generally cool to cold, with an average minimum of 3.4°C, well down on last Mays average of 5.7°C, but only slightly cooler than Gungahlin's longer term May average of 3.8°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on May 19, when the temperature was a mild 9.1°C, while on May 8, it dropped to a frosty -1.7°C.

Days were mild and generally sunny, with an average maximum of 14.7°C; down on last year’s average of 15.4°C and Gungahlin’s longer term May average of 15.5°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a mild 18.2°C, recorded on May 18, while on May 29, cloudy skies and cool NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to a cold 9.1°C.

Gungahlin recorded 14 frosts during May and there were 5 fogs.  This compares to last Mays 4 frosts and 3 fogs.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 0.8km/h during May, with the strongest gust for the month 37.0km/h from the W/NW, recorded on May 7.

May is traditionally the driest month of the year in Gungahlin, so it was pleasing to receive 44.6mm of rain for the month, over 11 days.  This compares to the 69.8mm that fell last May and Gungahlin’s longer term May average of 25.4mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also pleasing, with Canberra AP recording 34.2mm for the month, Tuggeranong 61.0mm, Melba 57.4mm and Monash 56.2mm.
