After some promising rain during April, falls during May were very disappointing.  Gungahlin recorded just 4.0mm for the month, over 11 days.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also well below normal, with 5.0mm falling at Tuggeranong and just 2.4mm at Canberra AP.  In fact, this was the forth lowest May total at Canberra AP since records began in 1935.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall so far in 2009 now stands at 130.8mm, down on the 160.0mm that fell over the same period last year.

Gungahlin's June outlook:  Cloudy conditions look set to continue well into June, producing above average temperatures for the first month of winter, especially at night.  Overall, daytime temperatures should average at around 13°C, and nights at 4°C.  This compares to Gungahlin’s longer term June average of 2°C to 12 °C.  Despite the dry May, conditions look more favourable for at least average rainfall over the coming winter months.  With this in mind, Gungahlin is likely to receive at least 50mm of rain during June, down slightly on the longer term June average of 59mm.
