Gungahlin records a warm and very dry March 2015.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during March were warmer and much drier than normal.

Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 10.3°C; well down on the average of 12.6°C recorded last March.  Gungahlin’s longer term March average is 11.3°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on March 18, when the temperature was 14.4°C, while on March 28 it dropped to a cold 3.7°C.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 25.6°C; well up on last years average of 23.6°C, and up on Gungahlin’s longer term March average of 24.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 30.5°C, recorded on March 19, while on March 27, cloudy skies and cool W winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 18.4°C.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 2.1 km/h during March (1.6 km/h last year), with the strongest gust for the month 38.6 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on March 26.

Proving that the cooler months aren’t far away, Gungahlin recorded its first fog of the year during March, but there were no frosts.  3 fogs, but no frosts, were recorded in Gungahlin last March.

After Gungahlin’s second driest February on record last month, March was also very dry with just 11.8mm of rain falling, over 3 days.  This compares to the 53.0mm that fell in Gungahlin last March and Gungahlin’s longer term March average of 39.7mm. Falls in other parts of Canberra were also well below normal, with Canberra AP recording 12.4mm for the month, Tuggeranong 11.8mm, Monash 11.0mm and Melba 17.6mm.
