Gungahlin records a fairly 'typical' March.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during March were fairly typical of the season, although rainfall was above average.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 12.6°C; well up on the average of 11.0°C recorded last March.  Gungahlin’s longer term March average is 11.3°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on March 28, when the temperature was a muggy 15.3°C, while on March 17 it dropped to a cooler 8.3°C.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 23.6°C; down on last years average of 24.8°C, and well below Gungahlin’s longer term March average of 24.6°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a very warm 28.7°C, recorded on March 11, while on March 24, cloudy skies and continuous light rain combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to a cool 15.9°C.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 1.6 km/h during March (2.2 km/h last year), with the strongest gust for the month 41.8 km/h from the NW, recorded on March 16.

Proving that the cooler months aren’t far away, Gungahlin recorded 3 fogs during March, but there were no frosts.  No fog or frost was recorded in Gungahlin last March.

After a very hot and dry summer, which saw just 91.4mm of rain falling in Gungahlin over the season, Gungahlin received a welcome 53.0mm of rain to start autumn, over 14 days.  This compares to the 16.4mm that fell in Gungahlin last March and Gungahlin’s longer term March average of 41.4mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also above average, with Canberra AP recording 88.0mm for the month, Tuggeranong 71.8mm, Monash 72.6mm and Melba 98.6mm.

Gungahlin’s total rainfall so far in 2014 now stands at 128.8mm, slightly below the 131.4mm that fell over the same period last year.
