March 2003 cooler, cloudier.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during March were generally cooler, cloudier and drier than normal.

Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 9.6°C (11.0°C last year).   The warmest night occurred on March 14, when the temperature was a mild 14°C, while on March 22 it dropped to a cold 3°C.

Days were predominantly warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 23.0°C (24.8°C last year).   The highest temperature was a very warm 27°C, recorded on March 13, while on March 1, cloudy skies and cool NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum to just 16°C.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 3.3km/h during March, with the month's strongest gust 48.3km/h from the North, recorded on March 20.

Although rainfall for the month totaled only 24.6mm (well below the monthly average of 53.0mm), the number of days on which rain fell was well up.   Some rain fell at the Weather Centre on 12 days during the month.  In fact, the longest period without any rain was 7 days, indicating that at least rain is beginning to fall more frequently.  Gungahlin's rainfall for 2003 now stands at 90.3mm, well below the 213.4mm recorded over the same period of 2002.

Gungahlin's April Outlook:  Current indications are for a slightly cooler and wetter than normal April across Gungahlin.   Nights will be cool to cold, and average at 7°C, while days should be mild and average at around 20°C.
