Late rain saves Gunghlin's otherwise dry February 2018.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during February were a little cooler and wetter than average.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 12.4°C; down on last years average of 13.3°C and well down on Gungahlin’s longer term February average of 13.6°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on February 24, when the minimum was a humid 18.8°C, while on February 1 it dropped to a cool 6.9°C.

Days were generally very warm and mostly sunny, with an average maximum of 28.2°C; down on last year’s average of 29.3°C, but up on Gungahlin’s longer term February average of 27.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 35.3°C, recorded on February 9.  In contrast, Gungahlin’s coolest February 2018 maximum temperature was 20.6°C, recorded on February 25.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.3 km/h during February, with the strongest gust for the month 48.3km/h from the W, recorded on February 14.

Gungahlin received a welcome 59.2mm of rain during February, over 6 days.  The bulk of this total (43.4mm) falling during a major rain event on 25 February.  Gungahlin's longer term February rainfall average is 53.5mm.   Falls in other parts of Canberra were also above average, Canberra AP recording 86.4mm for the month, Tuggeranong 66.2mm, Monash 58.8mm and Melba 106.1mm.  Gungahlin's 2018 rainfall total stands at 101.0mm, well below the 55.6mm recorded for the same period in 2017.
