Records tumble during Gungahlin's mixed February 2017.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during February were warmer and drier than average.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 13.3°C; below last years average of 14.4°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term February average minimum temperature is 13.7°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on February 11, when the minimum was a sticky 21.7°C, while on February 21 it dropped to a cold 4.3°C - the coldest February minimum recorded at the Weather Centre.  The previous February record was 5.7°C, recorded on 7 February 2011.

Days were generally very warm to hot and clear, with an average maximum of 29.3°C; down very slightly on last year’s average of 29.4°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term February average is 27.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a scorching 42.3°C, recorded on February 11.  This was a new record maximum for February, and beats the previous record of 40.4°C recorded on 2 February 2014.  In contrast, Gungahlin’s coolest February 2017 maximum temperature was just 19.5°C, recorded on February 1.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.2 km/h during February, with the strongest gust for the month 33.8km/h from the NW, recorded on February 6.

Gungahlin recorded 34.6mm of rain during February, over 6 days. Falls in other parts of Canberra were generally lighter, with Canberra AP recording 20.6mm for the month, Tuggeranong 23.0mm, Monash 21.5mm and Melba 23.6mm.  Gungahlin's 2017 rainfall total stands at 55.6mm, well below the 129.4mm recorded for the same period in 2016.
