Gungahlin records a warmer, drier February in 2016.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during February were warmer and drier than average.

Nights were mild, with an average minimum of 14.4°C; above last years average of 13.8°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term February average minimum temperature is 13.7°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on February 25, when the minimum was a balmy 23.6°C.  In fact, this was the warmest February night recorded at the Weather Centre, beating the previous record of 21.0°C on 11 February 2000.  In contrast, on February 17 it dropped to a cooler 9.8°C.

Days were generally very warm and clear, with an average maximum of 29.4°C; above last year’s average of 28.1°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term February average is 27.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 36.8°C, recorded on February 25.  In contrast, Gungahlin’s coolest February 2016 maximum temperature was 21.3°C, recorded on February 1.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.5 km/h during February, with the strongest gust for the month 37.0km/h from the W/NW, recorded on February 25.

Gungahlin recorded 34.8mm of rain during February, over 6 days. This compares to the 4.6mm that fell in February 2015 and Gungahlin's long term February average of 53.2mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also below average, with  Canberra AP recording 23.0mm for the month, Tuggeranong 31.4mm, Monash 22.6mm and Melba 40.6mm.  Gungahlin's 2016 rainfall total stands at 129.4mm, above the 114.4mm recorded for the same period in 2015.
