Gungahlin records a warm and wet end to 2017.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during December 2017 were warmer and wetter than normal.

Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 13.6°C; down slightly on last Decembers average of 13.9°C, but well above Gungahlin's longer term December average of 12.0°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on December 29, when the temperature was a muggy 18.6°C, while on December 4, it dropped to a cooler 8.7°C.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 27.5°C; down on last years average of 28.4°C.  Gungahlin’s longer term December average is 26.7°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 34.6°C, recorded on December 19, while on December 4, grey skies and rain combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum to a cold 12.5°C.  This is the coldest December maximum recorded at the Weather Centre.  The previous record was 14.2°C, recorded on 12 December 2008.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 1.4 km/h during December, with the strongest gust for the month 41.8 km/h from the W, recorded on December 14.

Gungahlin recorded a welcome 99.8mm of rain in December, over 13 days.  This compares to the 43.4mm that fell last December and Gungahlin’s longer term December average of 55.3mm.

Falls in other parts of Canberra were also well above average, with Canberra AP recording 95.2mm for the month, Tuggeranong 100.0mm, Monash 95.6mm and Melba 124.8mm.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall for 2017 was 568.8mm, well down on the 820.6mm that fell in Gungahlin during 2016.
