Gungahlin's dry spell continued during December, with just 20.6mm of rain falling at the Weather Centre over 5 days.  This brought Gungahlin's 2002 rainfall total to 450.6mm, well down on last years 519.2mm (also a very dry year).   In fact, 2002 was the driest year in Gungahlin since records began at the Weather Centre back in 1998.

Gungahlin's January Outlook:  Current indications are for a slightly cooler than normal January with temperatures, especially during the day, likely to be below average.   Nights will be mild, and average at 14°C, while days should average at around 27°C.   There are some encouraging signs that rainfall may improve towards the end of January, as the current El Nino weather event continues to show signs of weakening.   While it is too early to predict an immediate end to the drought, things are looking positive for a much wetter 2003.
