Gungahlin records a mild, wet end to spring.
Weather conditions across Gungahlin during November were cooler and wetter normal.
Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 9.8°C; considerably cooler than last Novembers average of 12.4°C. Gungahlin’s longer term November average is 9.7°C. The warmest night for the month occurred on November 14, when the temperature was a warm 15.9°C, while on November 6, it dropped to a cool 4.4°C.
Days were generally mild to warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 21.4°C; well down on last years warm average of 28.2°C. Gungahlin’s longer term November average is 23.8°C. Last November, the temperature in Gungahlin reached a sizzling 36.6°C, but this year it peaked at just 27.8°C on November 21. Overcast skies and gusty SE winds combined to keep Gungahlin’s maximum temperature on November 4 to a cool 13.1°C.
Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 1.6 km/h during November, with the strongest gust for the month 38.6 km/h from the W/NW, recorded on November 8.
The recent spell of wet weather continued into November, with Gungahlin recording 111.8mm of rain for the month, over 11 days. This compared to the 19.4mm that fell last November, and is well above Gungahlin’s longer term November average of 65.0mm. Falls in other parts of Canberra were also impressive, with Canberra AP recording 121.4mm for the month, Tuggeranong 148.0mm and Monash 158.0mm. Gungahlin’s total rainfall so far in 2010 stands at 580.2mm, well up on the 328.3mm that fell over the same period last year.
Gungahlin's December outlook: Slightly cooler and wetter weather conditions look set to continue in Gungahlin for the first month of summer. Overall, daytime temperatures should average at around 25°C, and nights at 11°C. This compares to Gungahlin’s longer term December average of 12°C to 27°C. Rainfall prospects for the month ahead continue to look good, with Gungahlin likely to receive around 80mm of rain during December, up on longer term average of 52mm.
