Welcome rain falls during Gungahlin’s warm November 2008.

Weather conditions in Gungahlin during November were dominated by cloudy skies, warm temperatures and some welcome rain.

Nights were cool to mild, with an average minimum of 9.9°C; down on the 11.3°C recorded last November.  The warmest night for the month occurred on November 15, when the temperature was a mild 14.2°C, while on November 23 it dropped to a cool 4.1°C.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 23.0°C; well down on the 25.5°C recorded in November 2007.  The highest temperature for the month was a hot 31.3°C, recorded on November 12.  In contrast, rain, highland snow and strong N to NW winds combined to keep Gungahlin’s maximum temperature on November 22 to just 14.5°C. 

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 3.5 km/h during November, with the strongest gust for the month 51.5 km/h from the N/NW, recorded on November 14.

Gungahlin recorded a welcome 68.2mm of rain during November, over 13 days.  This compared to the 111.5mm which fell last November.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also pleasing, with 85.0mm recorded at Canberra AP and 66.4mm at Tuggeranong.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall for 2008 now stands at 407.5mm, down slightly on the 418.0mm which fell over the same period last year. 

Gungahlin's December Outlook:  Gungahlin is heading for slightly warmer and wetter than normal weather conditions during December.  Overall, daytime temperatures should average at around 27 degrees, and nights at 12 degrees.  Rainfall prospects look quite positive, with passing thunderstorms likely to push Gungahlin’s December rainfall well above the longer term average of 47.1mm.
