October 2017 weather was slightly warmer and drier than normal across Gungahlin.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during October were a little warmer and slightly drier than normal.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 7.4°C; much warmer than the average of 5.9°C recorded last October and above Gungahlin’s longer term October average of 6.8°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on October 25, when the temperature was a mild 12.8°C, while on October 21, it dropped to a cold 2.6°C.

Days were generally warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 21.8°C; well up on last October’s average of just 17.8°C, and above Gungahlin’s longer term October average of 20.1°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 26.8°C, recorded on October 18, while on October 1, Gungahlin’s maximum temperature was a cool 17.7°C.

Gungahlin recorded 1 fog during October 2017 and there were no frosts.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at just 1.2km/h during October, with the strongest gust for the month 45.1km/h from the NW, recorded on October 30.

Gungahlin recorded 46.4mm of rain during October, over 15 days.  This compares to the 45.0mm that fell last October.  Gungahlin’s longer term October average is 48.2mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with Canberra AP recording 58.4mm for the month, Monash 44.8mm, Tuggeranong 41.8mm and Melba 63.2mm.  Gungahlin's total 2017 rainfall now stands at 384.4mm, well below the 702.8mm that fell over the same period in 2016.
