Gungahlin records a cooler October in 2016.

Weather conditions across Gungahlin during October were generally cooler and cloudier than normal.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 5.9°C; well below the warm average of 9.9°C recorded last October and below Gungahlin’s longer term October average of 6.7°C.  The warmest night for the month occurred on October 29, when the temperature was a mild 12.1°C, while on October 24, it dropped to a cold 1.6°C.

Days were generally mild and cloudy, with an average maximum of 17.8°C; well down on last October’s average of 24.5°C, and below Gungahlin’s longer term October average of 20.0°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a warm 24.5°C, recorded on October 29, while on October 1, Gungahlin’s maximum temperature was a cold 12.0°C.

Gungahlin recorded 3 frosts during October 2016 and there were no fogs.  This compares to the 0 frosts and 0 fogs last October.

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.1km/h during October, with the strongest gust for the month 43.5km/h from the W, recorded on October 4.

Gungahlin recorded 45.0mm of rain during October, over 9 days.  This compares to the 26.0mm that fell last October.  Gungahlin’s longer term October average is 48.3mm.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with Canberra AP recording 43.6mm for the month, Tuggeranong 40.4mm, Monash 42.6mm and Melba 52.8mm.  Gungahlin's total 2016 rainfall now stands at 702.8mm, well above the 412.4mm that fell over the same period in 2015.
