October 2008 in Gungahlin was warm and dry.

Weather conditions in Gungahlin during October were dominated by cloudy skies, mild to warm temperatures and below average rainfall.

Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 7.1°C; down on the 8.2°C recorded last October.  The warmest night for the month occurred on October 3, when the temperature was a warm 16.3°C, while on October 9 it dropped to a cold 0°C.

Days were generally mild to warm and cloudy, with an average maximum of 21.8°C; down on the 21.9°C recorded in October 2007, but well above Gungahlin’s longer term October average of 19.9°C.  The highest temperature for the month was a very warm 28.7°C, recorded on October 27.  In contrast, cloudy skies and fresh SE winds combined to keep Gungahlin’s maximum temperature on October 22 to just 13.3°C. 

Gungahlin recorded 4 frosts during October (0 frosts last October), and there was 1 fog (0 fogs last October).  

Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.4 km/h during October, with the strongest gust for the month 57.9 km/h from the N/NW, recorded on October 27.

Despite the threatening skies at times, Gungahlin recorded just 31.8mm of rain during October, over 6 days.  This compared to the 24.9mm which fell last October.  Falls in other parts of Canberra were also below average, with 33.2mm recorded at Canberra AP and 37.2mm at Tuggeranong.  Gungahlin’s total rainfall for 2008 now stands at 339.4mm, up on the 306.5mm which fell over the same period last year.

Gungahlin's November Outlook:  Current indications are for stable weather conditions for Gungahlin during November.  Overall, daytime temperatures should average at around 23 degrees, and nights at 9 degrees.  Rainfall prospects look mixed, with the final November total largely dependant on whether Gungahlin receives its fair share of passing thunderstorms.  This said, it appears unlikely that Gungahlin will receive its longer term November average of 69.2mm.
