October 2005 was mild and cloudy.
Weather conditions across Gungahlin and North Canberra during October were dominated by cloudy skies, mild temperatures and some welcome rain.
Nights were cool, with an average minimum of 7.8 degrees, up on the 6.8 degrees recorded last October. The warmest night for the month occurred on October 31, when the temperature was a warm 14.4 degrees, while on October 12 it dropped to a cooler 2.1 degrees.
Days were generally mild and cloudy, with an average maximum of 19.4 degrees, up slightly on the 19.0 degrees recorded last October. The highest temperature for the month was a warm 25.3 degrees, recorded on October 31, while on October 9, overcast skies and gusty NW winds, combined to keep Gungahlin's maximum temperature to just 10.9 degrees.
Due to the generally cloudy skies, Gungahlin recorded just 1 frost for the month, and there were no fogs.
Winds at the Weather Centre averaged at 4.9 km/h during October, with the strongest gust for the month 57.9 km/h from the N/NW, recorded on October 11.
The good spring rains continued across the region during October, with Gungahlin recording 58.4mm of rain, over 15 days. Falls in other parts of Canberra were similar, with 56mm falling at Canberra AP, 55mm at Tuggeranong and an impressive 92mm at Tidbinbilla. Gungahlin's total rainfall so far in 2005 now stands at 501.9mm, well up on the 311.9mm that fell over the same period in 2004.
Gungahlin's November Outlook: Current indications are for slightly warmer weather conditions throughout November. Daytime temperatures should average at around 24 degrees and nights at 10 degrees. Rainfall prospects are good, with falls likely to match, or slightly better the longer term November average of 65mm.
